(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's basketball hosted Lawrence Tech on Wednesday evening for a WHAC conference game. The Cardinals came into the contest 7-11 overall (2-9 WHAC) while the Blue Devils entered 11-6 (8-3 WHAC). The game required double overtime to decide, but CUAA eventually outlasted Lawrence Tech for an 85-78 victory, making it the Cardinals first double overtime win under Ricky Yahn.
Kip French notched his first career double-double, leading the Cardinals with career highs in points and rebounds with 24 and 11 respectively. Jayden Priddy came in second with a career high 19 points. Matt Lockhart finished third with 17 points. Colton Ritsema and Devyn Jones were also in double figures with 13 and 10 points respectively and Jones collected a career high 5 steals.
Jayden Priddy knocked down a fadeaway jumper for Concordia's first basket. Priddy added another layup and Matt Lockhart also scored inside. D'Angelo Stoxstill scored a layup through a double team to cut the deficit to 12-8.
Kip French hit a midrange jumper after a 7-0 LTU run. Matt Lockhart chipped in a basket and Jayden Priddy drained a baseline jumper. Devyn Jones got on the scoresheet and Priddy drilled a triple to keep the offense going. Jones converted an "and-1" late in the half and Colton Ritsema made 3 free throws to pull CUAA within 31-25 at halftime.
Kip French hit a 3-pointer to start an 8-0 run in the second half that tied the game. Matt Lockhart knocked down a triple and Colton Ritsema had the game-tying basket. Kip French made another jumper and two free throws from Ritsema gave the Cardinals a 37-35 lead.
Jayden Priddy made two free throws and Matt Lockhart scored as the teams continued to trade baskets. Triples from Priddy and Colton Ritsema kept the Cardinals within 1 point at the 5:00 mark. Kip French nailed a shot from behind the arc and a Devin Jones triple tied the game 60-60. Jones added a layup in the final minute and a CUAA defensive stop sent the game to overtime tied 62-62.
Free throws from Kip French started off the first overtime. Jayden Priddy added a jumper, but the Blue Devils pulled ahead 71-66 with 2:33 to play. Colton Ritsema and Matt Lockhart scored to begin a rally and a critical free throw from Ritsema tied the game 71-71, leading to a second overtime.
Jayden Priddy started the second overtime with a 3-pointer. Kip French drained a triple and Matt Lockhart scored inside. Concordia was able to maintain their lead with free throws from French and Lockhart, securing the hard-fought 85-78 win.
Concordia will remain at home this Saturday, January 22 when they host rival Madonna at 3pm.
