NCCAA WORLD SERIES DAY 2 RECAP: Cardinals take down the Eagles 8-1

(Kansas City, MO) - The Concordia Cardinals softball team took on Southwestern Christian in a battle of the unbeaten teams at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) World Series on Wednesday evening. The Cardinal used a five-run fourth inning to propel themselves to an 8-1 win. 

 

GAME 1 - CONCORDIA 8, SOUTHWESTERN CHRISTIAN 1

Emilee Underwood took the circle for the game against the Eagles. Underwood (19-3) pitched a complete game nine hits, one unearned run and struck out eight batters. 

 

Underwood struck out four batters in the first two innings to get the defense going for the Cardinals. The Cardinal defense showed up yet again in the top of the third with a double play on a double steal attempt by the Eagles. 

 

 

Shannon McAlinden and Faith Cramton jumpstarted the Cardinal offense with a double and single respectively in the fourth. Maddy Grueter brought the first runs across the plate with a deep home run to left field. Sarah Tyrell and Jada Stephenson kept the offense rolling getting on base and coming around to score on Payton Lewis' double to right center field. 

 

The fifth inning saw three more CUAA runs cross the plate as McAlinden started with a single and scored on A Katie Tobias triple. Tobias then scored on a RBI groundout from Faith Cramton. Grueter continued the run with a single and coming around to score on Stephenson RBI double. 

 

The Cardinal finished out the game with a pair of groundouts and Underwood getting her eighth strikeouts.

The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow when they take on Geneva at 12 pm Central for a chance to make the Chanpionship game.
