Women's Hockey defeated by UM-Dearborn

(Chelsea, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals Women's Hockey team returned to the Arctic Coliseum as they hosted the UM-Dearborn Wolverines in a rematch of Friday afternoon's epic thriller. In a game filled with special teams play (40 penalty minutes and 12 powerplays, combined), the Wolverines took the contest, 4-1.

The Cardinals dropped to 3-4-0 overall and 2-4-0 in CCHWA play.

1st Period - Concordia 1, UM-Dearborn1

The game kicked off with penalty troubles for both sides, and each team's powerplay starting quickly. The Cardinals were given the first opportunity on the advantage, and they converted quickly, as Madelyne Petrie took a shot from a weird angle that hit a Wolverine stick and ended up in the back of the net, giving CUAA the early advantage. Aaliyah James picked up the assists on the score.

UM-Dearborn would respond with a powerplay goal of their own just over 2 and a half minutes later to tie the contest at 1 with 13:02 to go in the opening frame. Penalty trouble would continue, with the Cards getting 3 more powerplay chances and the Wolverines receiving another one themselves, but neither side would convert as the game would remain tied at 1 going into the intermission.

2nd Period - UM-Dearborn 3, Concordia 1

The Wolverines would once again take advantage of a powerplay, scoring at the 14:17 mark of the 2nd period to take the lead. UM-Dearborn used the momentum to extend their lead less than two minutes later, making it a 3-1 game less than halfway through the frame.

The Cards would continue applying pressure, getting several opportunities in high quality scoring areas, but the Wolverine goalie stood firm, blanking them in the period and taking a 3-1 UMD lead into the second break.

3rd Period - UM-Dearborn 4, Concordia 1

Despite more opportunities for the Cardinals, the Wolverines would be the only ones to strike in the final frame, as they were able to kill a pair of penalties late on the way to a 4-1 victory over the Cardinals.

Amanda Crundwell played the full 60 minutes in goal for the Cardinals, making 32 saves on 36 shots faced.

The Cardinals head back to the ice on Friday, November 4th, when they head to Fort Wayne, IN to take on the Indiana Tech Warriors. Puck drop is set for 7pm at the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
