Volleyball drops road contest at Siena Heights

 

(Adrian, MI) – Concordia volleyball went on the road for a rivalry match at Siena Heights on Saturday afternoon.  The Cardinals fought hard and pulled within 4 points in the 1st and 3rd sets, but the Saints came away with the 3-0 win.

Claudia Grepke, Hannah Duchene and Kayla Peters tied for a team-high 8 kills apiece.  Abigail Austin and Madeline Vnuk tied for a team-leading 17 assists.  McKenzie Peters secured the back end with 13 digs.  Jessalyn Peavyhouse led Concordia with 4 blocks.

 

Set 1 – SHU 25, CUAA 21

Jessalyn Peavyhouse had Concordia's first kill in set 1.  Claudia Grepke and Hannah Duchene added early kills as the Cardinals fought back from an early deficit.  CUAA forced multiple ties with two kills from Hannah Duchene leading to a 19-19 score.  Kayla Peters cut the deficit to 23-21 with a late kill but Siena Heights took set 1.

 

Set 2 – SHU 25, CUAA 15

Jessalyn Peavyhouse had the first Cardinal kill in set 2.  Madalyn Lisman made two kills early in the set, but Siena Heights was able to build a double-digit lead.  Kayla Peters and Breann June had 2 kills each later on but SHU took set 2.

 

Set 3 – SHU 25, CUAA 21

Jessalyn Peavyhouse and Kayla Peters teamed up for a block to start set 3.  Madalyn Lisman combined with Claudia Grepke and Breann June respectively for blocks and a 7-2 lead.  Hannah Duchene recorded back-to-back kills and Grepke notched three kills down the stretch for a 19-15 advantage.  However, Siena Heights went on a 10-2 run in the late stages to clinch the win.

 

Concordia will play next at rival Madonna this Wednesday, September 28 at 7pm.
