Volleyball downed at UM-Dearborn

(Livonia, MI) – Concordia volleyball played on the road against UM-Dearborn on Wednesday evening in WHAC play. The Cardinals played tough forcing extra points in sets 1 and 3, but the Wolverines were able to win in straight sets.

Kayla Peters led Concordia with 17 kills and 20 digs. Madeline Vnuk had a team-high 36 assists.

 

Set 1 – UMD 27, CUAA 25

Claudia Grepke started the game with a kill. The Cardinals slowly maintained a lead early on with Kayla Peters making an ace for an 11-8 lead. Claudia Grepke and Kayla Peters continued to be strong hitters and Madeline Vnuk teamed up with both Madalyn Lisman and Jessalyn Peavyhouse for blocks. After two kills from Vnuk the score was tied 25-25, but UM-Dearborn took the last 2 points to close the set.

 

Set 2 – UMD 25, CUAA 20

Claudia Grepke had the first Cardinal kill in set 2. Kayla Peters made three straight kills and Paige Staton added an ace as part of a 6-0 run to go up 9-6. Breann June made 2 kills later in the set leading to a 19-19 tie, but UM-Dearborn closed out set 2.

 

Set 3 – UMD 26, CUAA 24

McKenzie Peters started set 3 with an ace. Claudia Grepke made two early kills and 3 straight kills from Kayla Peters put the Cardinals up 8-6. Peters and Grepke continued to dominate pacing CUAA to a 22-18 lead, but the set would be tied 24-24 late. UM-Dearborn earned the final 2 points to clinch the win.

 

Concordia will return home to host rival Siena Heights this Friday at 7pm.
