Dominic Scala will be entering into his 2nd full season as director of the esports team. He will help oversee all the gaming titles that are apart of the program so far such as League of Legends, Valorant, Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, Fortnite, and many other games available.

Dominic is taking over for Concordia's inaugural Esports director and brother of Dominic, Anthony Scala.

Dominic comes to Concordia from Divine Child High School in Dearborn, Michigan where he served as the Co-founder and Co-director of Esports for three years. Scala helped establish Divine Child's first esports team, beginning with League of Legends and expanding to Super Smash Brothers Ultimate and Rocket League. As Co-director he created consistent in-person weekly practice plans and worked to develop a team first culture, focusing on the mental side of competition. Scala also hosted four-school in-person invitational League of Legends tournaments at Divine Child and consulted with other local schools to help establish and create their programs.

"It's such a unique opportunity to be able to help lead a young program in such a quickly growing area of collegiate competition," says Scala. "It's a privilege to be able to have a hand in a program and sport that is so brand new. It is also a blessing to be able to do it at a university that is committed to helping student-athletes grow not only in their academic and athletic lives but also in their personal and spiritual lives as well. Just about my entire life as a student, athlete, coach, and teacher, I have grown up and learned in institutions with that mindset, so I am very happy to continue on in this kind of environment."

Dominic served as an English teacher at Divine Child for the past four school years and the Head Varsity Hockey Coach the past five seasons. Scala studied Biology at Adrian College during his undergrad years and earned a Master of Arts in Teaching at University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Scala has his eyes set on a number of goals for the young program. "In the short term, I am looking forward to getting to know each of our student-athletes and starting to improve our level of competition while bonding together as a complete team. Looking more long term, my primary goals are to develop our program's identity as a hardworking and creatively thinking team. We will also strive to continue to bring in student-athletes who understand the value of being a part of a cohesive team that works toward a common goal while also pushing each other to be the best versions of themselves in all aspects of their lives. As we continue to improve internally, we will steadily build outward as we become more and more competitive every year."

Athletic Director Lonnie Pries is excited to have Dominic join Concordia's staff. "Dominic's experience as an educator as well as a head coach will be extremely beneficial as he works to build our Esports program," says Pries. "He is a tremendous addition for our university and our athletes will be blessed to be a part of the program under Dominic's guidance."
