Men's tennis falls in season opener to Alma 7-2

(Alma, MI) After having their first match postponed on Friday afternoon due to weather, the men's tennis team began their 2019 fall season on the road at Alma College. The Scots defended their home courts defeating the Cardinals 7-2.

The Cardinals two points came at singles with Ryan Curtis (SR/Hartland, MI) picking up a point at #3 singles and Eli Wener at #5 singles. Curtis cruised in his match taking the first set 6-1 and the second 6-2. Making his freshman debut for the Cardinals, Eli Werner (FR/Munising, MI) defeated his opponent 6-7 (7-9), 6-2, 10-8. After dropping the first set in a tie-break, Werner stayed tough and composed dominating the second set, 6-2. In the winner take all third set, Werner held on 10-8 to earn his first career point.

James Olson (SO/Charlotte, MI) narrowly missed out on a point at #1 singles falling in a closely contested third set tie-breaker. Sam Dobben (SR/Jackson, MI) also took his opponent to a third set tie-breaker at #4 singles and forced one at #2 doubles as well with his opponent Ryan Curtis.

The Cardinals will return to action next Saturday as they travel to Indiana University South Bend as matches are set to begin at 1pm.
