(Marion, IN) – The Men's Track and Field team opened their outdoor schedule at Indiana Wesleyan for the Polar Dog Invite. The team came away with nine collegiate debuts and one personal record.
The throwers made up a majority of the new collegiate marks. Ryan Reynolds (Junior; Northville, MI) and Dawson Kolka (Freshman; Sanford, MI) made their collegiate debuts in various throwing events. They both competed in Hammer and Discus. While Reynolds led the way in Hammer with a throw of 39 meters, he finished second on the team in Discus, throwing a distance of 33.21 meters.
Kolka led the team in Discus with a throw of 35.52 meters. Kolka also competed in Hammer (30.79 meters), Shot Put (10.13 meters), and Javelin (26.02 meters).
Gerard Noel (Sophomore; Canton, MI) competed in Discus, Shot Put, and Hammer. The highlight for Noel came in Hammer, where he threw a personal record by four meters. Noel's new best distance came in at 33.17 meters. He finished with a distance of 28.86 meters in Discus and 10.47 meters in Shot Put.
Jesse Lietzow (Sophomore; St. Clare Shores, MI) and Scott Smith (Senior; Saginaw, MI) also competed in throwing events this weekend. Leitzow competed in the Shot Put and Hammer throw. Lietzow led the team in Shot Put with a throw of 12.32 meters and 38.23 meters in Hammer. Smith competed in Javelin and led the team with a throw of 38.10 meters.
On the track, Hayden Prone (Sophomore; Fort Gratiot, MI) made his outdoor debut in the 400-meter dash with a final time of 1:00.
Eric Breidert (Freshman; Wenatchee, WA) also made his outdoor collegiate debut in the 1500 meters, with a final time of 5:07.64.
Dominic Catallo (Sophomore; Westland, MI) wrapped up the running events for the day. He ran in the 800 with a time of 2:09.
The team will have time for training as they prepare for the Spartan Invite at Michigan State on Friday, April 4.
