Maria Barlow

Maria Barlow

Maria Barlow now enters her sixth season as the head coach of the Concordia University women's ice hockey team. She was officially named the first head coach in program history in July of 2017.

During the 2020-21 season, Barlow oversaw the program as it reached new heights, including their first win in school history on January 29th against Lake Superior State University. The team also had its first series win ever, defeating LSSU the following night to sweep the weekend. Several players set program records in categories such as goals and assists in both a single season and a career.

Before coming to Concordia, Barlow was a goalie coach for the Michigan State University women's ice hockey team, where she was able to guide MSU goalie, Kathryn Hammer, to second team all-season and first team all-playoff honors. Barlow helped recruit student athletes for the team as Michigan State would go on to get second in their conference tournament with Barlow on staff. Now making her way to Ann Arbor from East Lansing, Barlow will look to use her experiences with the Spartans to lead the Cardinals. "I look forward to using my knowledge of the league and connections with other teams to build this program to be the best it can be."

Prior to her coaching career, Barlow was the netminder for the Spartans. Barlow led Michigan State to a regular and tournament conference championship, being named team MVP twice. Barlow also represented the United States at the 2015 World University Games in Spain as the starting goaltender.
