Women's Track & Field see's 5 PR's with Korte earning NAIA qualifying mark at Mrs. G Invite

(Angola, IN) - The women's track and field team traveled to Trine University for the Mrs. G's Invitational on Saturday, February 4. The team faced off against NAIA and NCAA Division 3 competition. The team came away with 5 personal records, 1 new collegiate mark, and 1 NAIA qualifying mark.

 

 

Lena Korte continued to rewrite the record books in the shot put, but this time with another accomplishment attached. Korte broke her own record with a throw of 13.11 meters and by doing so, she passed the B standard for the NAIA Championships. Korte redeemed herself after having a rough go of it in the weight throw, where she did not record a distance.

Also competing in throwing events was Morgan Jenkins who lead the team in the weight throw with a distance of 12.14 meters. Elsa Clausen threw a distance of 11.56 meters. She was followed closely behind by Quinn Stefanski with a distance of 11.55 meters.

In the weight throw, Clausen threw a distance of 9.92 meters. She was followed by Stefanski with a distance of 9.39 meters, who threw a new personal record. Hailey Stasiukinas wrapped up the throwing events with a distance of 8.65 meters.

In other field events, Sierra Stetchebar picked up a sixth-place finish in High Jump by clearing the height of 1.42 meters. Stasiukinas finished in eighth place with a jump of 4.28 meters.

Stasiukinas was the only Cardinal to compete in the 60-meter dash with a time of 9.08 seconds. Emily Belinsky competed in the 60-meter hurdles and qualified for the finals. Belinsky ended up finishing in eighth place with a time of 12.10 seconds.

The Cardinals had 6 athletes compete in the 400-meter dash. Chloe Evans who made her collegiate debut in the 400 led the way with a time of 1:07.79. Sierra Stechebar ran a personal record time of 1:08.08. Hope Renfer was third for the Cardinals in 1:12, followed by Chloe Gunter in 1:15, Mary Salem in 1:16, and Madisyn Flamini in 1:18.

In distance events, Gunter competed in the mile, running just seconds off of her time one week ago, as she finished in 6:42. In the 800-meter dash, Amanda Fogo ran a personal best time of 2:57. Fogo returned in the 3000 with Alison Doerr. Fogo ended up finishing in a time of 13:26, while Doerr finished with a big personal best time of 13:33.

The team will head into championship season with the NCCAA Championships on Friday, February 10, and Saturday, February 11.
