Christians and Seykora lead Cardinals Conference Honors

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced their 2021-22 yearly awards and honors on Saturday evening in between the semifinal games. Several Concordia Cardinals were honored for their efforts both on and off the field this season. Abel Christians and Anthony Seykora highlighted the Cardinal awards.

 

Christians, a senior from Grand Rapids, Michigan, earned Player of the Year and a place on the First Team All-Conference. Totaled 10 goals and 24 assists on the season (34 points), which is the most in a Cardinal single season. This is his first nomination for the first team, as last season he was named to the Second Team. He also earned one WHAC Player of the Week this season. 

 

Seykora, a freshman from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, earned Newcomer of the Year and a spot on the Second Team All-Conference. Seykora was a breakout goalie this season for the Cardinals ending the season with a 7-7 record, had the fourth-most saves in the WHAC this season with 411, and had the fifth-least goals against per game as well at 3.56. He earned WHAC Player of the Week twice this season. 

 

Tyler Groth, a senior from South Lyon, Michigan, earned First Team All-Conference. Groth was a staple on the Cardinal defense as he was able to tally nine goals on the season with the second-most game-winning goals in the WHAC this season with four. Groth was also named to the WHAC First Team last season. 

 

Hunter Kepple, a senior from Freeport, PA earned Second Team All-Conference. Kepple ended the season tops on the team with 11 goals. Kepple ends his Cardinal career as the leader in total goals at 48. Kepple earned himself WHAC Player of the Week once this season. 

 

Abel Christians was also recognized as the team's WHAC Champion of Character. The senior captain was honored for his commitment to the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

 

Also, on Saturday WHAC All-Academic teams were named which involves being a junior in Academic standing and having a cumulative GPA of 3.25. Six Cardinals were named Academic All-Conference including Abel Christians, Evan Daldin, Jacob Gerace, Tyler Groth, Thomas Hendry, and Tristan Waechter.
