(Ann Arbor, MI) The Cardinals completed their regular season with an overall record 32-18 making it the third straight season of 30 or more wins. Their high level of play was recognized by the WHAC as 5 different Cardinals were named to the All-Conference teams.
1st Team All-Conference
Marshall Oetting (SR/Concordia, MO) earned 1st Team All-Conference honors in 2017-18 after being on the 2nd Team in the previous season. Marshall led the Cardinals on the mound going 6-0 in his 8 appearances including 60 strikeouts and a 2.10 ERA in 51.1 innings pitched. Oetting threw a complete game no-hitter against Rochester earlier in the season. Oetting was also efficient in the field at first base recording a team high 213 putouts and a fielding percentage of .972.
Omar Prieto (SR/Levittown, Puerto Rico ) joins Marshall on the 1st Team All-Conference list. Prieto led the team in batting average and slugging percentage recording a .403 BA and .630 SLG percentage. Omar recorded 62 hits and 14 runs this season and was second on the team with 7 home runs. While spending most of his time behind the plate at catcher, Prieto recorded 178 putouts and 26 assists while leading the team in fielding percentage at .995, only recording one error this season.
Micah Oetting (SR/Concordia, MO) continues the list of 1st Team All-Conference selections for the Cardinals. Oetting hit a solid .359 at the plate this year while recording 65 hits and 30 runs. Micah broke the all-time school record for career hits recently against Aquinas and currently has 218 career hits. Starting all 49 games at shortstop, Micah has recorded 78 putouts and 124 assists on the year which leads the team. His fielding percentage sits at .944.
Blaine Milheim (JR/Eaton Rapids, MI) rounds out the 1st Team All-Conference list for Concordia. Milheim is currently in his junior season and hitting .362 and a slugging percentage of .508. Blaine is leading the team in hits this season with 67 and is second on the team in runs scored with 48. Milheim is been efficient in the outfield tallying 137 putouts and recording a .986 fielding percentage.
2nd Team All-Conference
Grant Steinborn (SO/Flushing, MI) was named to the All-Conference 2nd Team for his performance this season on the mound and in various positions for the Cardinals. Steinborn appeared in 11 games on the mound recording a 6-1 overall record which ties Marshall Oetting for most wins on the team. In his 45.1 innings pitched, Grant recorded 25 strikeouts and a 1.59 ERA which was second on the team. While in the field, Steinborn tallied 122 putouts and 14 assists with a .986 fielding percentage.
Champions of Character
Senior pitcher Darricle Jones (SR/Eastpointe, MI) was named Concordia's representative to the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference's Champions of Character Team. The NAIA and the WHAC strive to have their coaches and athletes exemplify the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.
All-Academic Team
Concordia prides itself on excellence not only on the playing field but in the class room as well. The WHAC names student athletes that are of junior status with a cumulative GPA of a 3.25 to the All-Academic Team. Concordia student-athletes Ben Balgaard (SR/Fenton, MI), Jacob Clark (JR/Pinckney, MI), Darricle Jones, Jacob Maas (SR/Milan, MI), Jimmy Mckane, Blaine Milheim, Marshall Oetting, Micah Oetting, Omar Prieto, and Preston Sherman (JR/Homer, MI) were named to the team as a result of their efforts in the classroom.
