(East Lansing, MI) – The Concordia men's track team traveled to Michigan State for the Spartan Invitational on Friday, April 4. The Cardinals came away with three personal records, two new collegiate marks and two NCCAA qualifiers.
The team was led by Scott Smith (Senior; Saginaw, MI) and Ryan Reynolds (Junior; Northville, MI) each earned NCCAA qualifying marks. Smith earned his in Javelin with a throw of 44.89 meters. Reynolds threw a new personal best distance of 39.65 meters to eclipse the standard.
Also competing in Hammer was Jesse Lietzow (Sophomore; St. Clair Shores, MI) and Dawson Kolka (Freshman; Sanford, MI). Leitzow finished in 14 place with a throw of 35.51 meters and was followed in 15 place by Kolka with a throw of 28.24 meters.
Lietzow also competed in the shot put, where he threw a distance of 12.18 meters. Kolka threw an almost two-meter personal best in Discus with a throw of 37.34 meters. Mason Wyllis (Senior; Holt, MI) returned from injury to compete in javelin. Wyllis threw a distance of 22.22 meters.
On the track, Hayden Prone (Sophomore; Fort Gratiot, MI) ran to a new personal record in the 400 by finishing in a time of 1:00. Prone also made his collegiate outdoor debut in the 200, finishing in a time of 25.54 seconds.
Dominic Catallo (Sophomore; Westland, MI) competed in both the 800 and 1500. Catallo finished the races in 2:16 and 4:44.
Eric Breidert (Freshman; Wenatchee, WA ) made his collegiate debut in the 800, finishing in a time of 2:28.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, April 12 for the Bill Bippes Invite at Spring Arbor.
