Men's Tennis drops matches to Lawrence Tech and Saint Francis (IN)

Concordia Men's Tennis competed in a pair of matches over the weekend, hosting Lawrence Tech for a WHAC matchup, and traveling to Grand Rapids to play Saint Francis (IN). The Cardinals fell to the Blue Devils 7-0 on Friday, and came up short against Saint Francis (IN), 5-2 on Saturday.

 

Concordia 0 – Lawrence Tech 7

The Blue Devils came away with the doubles point as Benjamin King and Edward Lupas fell (1-6) in the top slot and Andrew Dobbs and Jordan Conn were shutout in the second position. Ethan Hiltz and Logan Fuller were unable to finish the third doubles match due to time constraints.

 

All six singles matches were won by Lawrence Tech, with Benjamin King putting up the biggest fight, taking three games in the top match. Logan Fuller took a pair of games in #6 Singles while Edward Lupas took a game in the #4 match. Andrew Dobbs, Jordan Conn, and Ethan Hiltz were all swept in their matches.

 

Concordia 2 – Saint Francis (IN) 5

In a closely contested match on Saturday, the Cougars secured the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. Benjamin King and Ethan Hiltz won the #2 match 6-2 to avoid the clean sweep in doubles. Logan Fuller and Edward Lupas took a pair of games in the third slot, while Andrew Dobbs and Jordan Conn took a game in the top match.

 

Jordan Conn and Edward Lupas earned Concordia's two points in the match, winning the #3 and #4 Singles matches respectively. Conn came back to force his match into a third set, ultimately winning in a tiebreaker (5-7, 7-5, 7-6(7-4)). Lupas earned the win in two sets (6-4, 6-3). Both Benjamin King in the top match and Logan Fuller in the sixth match saw their matchups go into three sets, ultimately falling. King retired in the third set (6-2, 4-6, 1-1), while Fuller sent the second set into a tiebreaker to force a third set (1-6, 7-6(7-4), 1-6). Andrew Dobbs dropped a close #2 match (5-7, 6-7), with Ethan Hiltz falling in the #5 match (1-6, 5-7) as well.

 

 

The Cardinals will be back in action on Friday, April 19th when they return to Grand Rapids to resume their match against Aquinas and then face off against Cornerstone. They will then compete in the Grace Christian Doubles Tournament on the next day.
