Esports Weekly Update (October 9-17)

The Rocket League team has been making steady progress in gameplay, but the results still aren't quite showing as they took two more 3-0 losses to Cleary and Indiana Tech last Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. In the first match against Cleary, Concordia lost all three in overtime (2-1, 3-2, 1-0) Clayton "OG Waffle" led the match in scoring for the Cardinals with two goals over the three games. Two days later against Indiana Tech, the team found a bit more offense, but it still wasn't enough to take down the 3rd place Warriors (3-2, 5-1, 3-2).

The Cardinals then went on to start their penultimate week of the season with a Sunday (10/17) evening game against first-place Lawrence Tech. Despite one of the two wins on the season being against this top-ranked team, Lawrence Tech was not fazed by it whatsoever and won the match in dominating fashion (4-1, 9-0, 4-2). Of the few times Concordia scored, Brandon "Troyer_26" Troyer had two goals, and Clayton "OG Waffle" Hoskins had one.

In what could end up being the most important game of the regular season, the Cardinals will face 5th place Lourdes (3-6) on Saturday, October 23rd at 5:00 pm. Winning this game and the following final game against Siena Heights could boost Concordia to the 5th seed for playoffs.

The match will be streamed live at twitch.tv/cuaa_esports

Drew "Drewfighter1281" Burk, unfortunately, took his first loss of the season, this one against Temple University by a final score of 2-1. After dropping the first game 25-20, Burk came back to win game two by a score of 13-10 before dropping the last game due to an unfortunate missed PAT. This dropped his record to 2-1 on the season (7-2 by the game). Jordan "Deuce" Ponce took a win by forfeit against Southern Arkansas, improving his record to 2-1 on the season (6-3 by the game).

We are looking for the next great recruit for all of our teams in addition to students interested in stream broadcasting, community/social media management, and a number of other areas of esports industry-based talent.
