Men's tennis drops season opener to Olivet, 7-2

(Marshall, Mich.) The Concordia men's tennis team kicked off their 2020 fall season with a match against Olivet. The Cardinals traveled to Marshall, Michigan as Marshall High School served as the host. The Cardinals were competitive in most of their matchups but fell to the Comets, 7-2.

 

The men's competition started with the doubles matchups first. Olivet earned all three points in the doubles matchups. James Olson (JR/Charlotte, MI) and Tristan Waechtar battled at three doubles but came up just short, 8-6.

 

The Cardinals two points came in the singles matches. Making his freshman debut, Frank Melcher (FR) earned the Cardinals first point. Melcher cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 win over his opponent earning his first point as a Cardinal. Sam Dobben (SO/Jackson, MI) was tested the first set (7-6), but dominated the second set, 6-1 to sweep his opponent for the Cardinals second point. Adam DiMaggio (JR/Irmo, SC) almost earned a point for the Cardinals as he forced a three set tie-breaker but eventually lost (6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7))

 

The Cardinals will return to the practice court for a couple weeks before resuming competition on September 25th. The Cardinals will play Calvin College at 5pm in Grand Rapids.
