(Grand Rapids, MI) - The women's track and field team returned to competition from the holiday break by traveling to Grand Rapids for the Jon Flaminio Classic hosted by Aquinas College on Saturday, January 11. The team came away with 4 personal record and 2 new collegiate marks.
The distance crew returned from their break after cross country to run to four personal records. Amanda Fogo (Junior; Fowlerville, MI), Rachael Byers (Sophomore; Plymouth, MI), Macee Ripke (Sophomore; Napoleon, OH) and Alison Doerr (Junior; Grand Haven, MI) competed in the 3000. Fogo, Byers and Ripke ran to new personal records after running the entire race together. Ripke narrowly crossed the line ahead of Byers, as they finished at 12:33, followed by Fogo at 12:35. Doerr came across the line shortly after at 13:22.
In the Mile, Michaela Kurth (Sophomore; Ypsilanti, MI) ran to a sixth-place finish with a time of 6:08. Grace Finley (Sophomore; Monroe, MI), Chloe Gunter (Senior; Monroe, MI) and Jenna Oberly (Sophomore; Dearborn, MI) also competed in the mile. Finley was the next one to cross the line at 6:35. Gunter finished the race in 7:09 and Oberly crossed in 7:15.
The four ladies also competed in the 800-meter run, where Kurth finished second at 2:45. Finley was once again second at 2:59. Then it was Gunter, who finished in 3:07, and Oberly, who finished in 3:23, a new personal record time.
In field events, Jayde Ullenbruch (Sophomore; Port Huron, MI) finished second in the long jump by jumping to a distance of 4.99 meters. Ullenbruch also took second in the 60-meter hurdles with 9.59 seconds. Both marks were NCCAA Qualifying marks.
Maya Freeman (Sophomore; Fort Gratiot, MI) competed in both shot put and weight throw. Freeman threw distances of 9.53 meters in shot put and 12.28 meters. Morgan Jenkins (Junior; Cleveland, OH) led the way in weight throw with a distance of 12.97 meters. Hailey Stasiukinas (Senior; Grand Rapids, MI) competed in the shot put and finished with a final distance of 8.62 meters.
In sprints, Emma Puwal (Freshman; Utica, MI) competed in the 200 and 400-meter dash. Puwal finished with a time of 28.91 and 1:07.53 in the respectable races.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Friday, January 17, at the Polar Dog Invitational hosted by Concordia Nebraska.
