Women's Cross Country rounds out season at WHAC Championships

(Grand Rapids, MI) - The Women's Cross-Country team traveled to Grand Rapids on Friday, November 3 for the WHAC Championships hosted by Aquinas at Riverside Park. The team came away with a 10th-place finish with a total of 294 points. On an individual side, the team came away with 6 personal records as well.

A sickness-riddled women's team battled through their second 6K of the season. The team was led by Macee Ripke (Freshman; Napoleon, OH) who earned a new personal record time of 27:14. Ripke was followed by fellow Freshmen, Michaela Kurth and Rachael Byers (Freshman; Plymouth, MI) who each ran a new personal record times. Kurth finished in a time of 27:36 and Byers in a time of 28:33.

The personal records continued for the next two finishers for the Cardinals, as Mary Salem (Senior; Troy, MI) and Alison Doerr (Sophomore; Grand Haven, MI) each saw significant improvement. No bigger improvement came on the day though, than for Freshman Elizabeth Hines (Freshman; Ypsilanti, MI) who saw a multi-minute improvement to 30:51. The Cardinals team was finished out by Amanda Fogo with a time of 31:41.

The team had three girls named to the WHAC All-Academic team, Fogo, Doerr, and Salem all were Sophomores or above with a GPA of 3.2 or higher. Gunter was chosen as the team's Champion of Character award recipient.

The women's season comes to a conclusion with a strong individual performance, but just short of some team goals. The women will regroup and rest up, before turning to the track to compete in the new year.

The team will be without one current member, as Mary Salem prepares to graduate at the end of the Fall Semester.
