Men's lacrosse falls to No.4 University of the Cumberlands

(Williamsburg, KY) – Concordia men's lacrosse played their second game in two days against #4-ranked University of the Cumberlands on Saturday afternoon. Both teams entered the contest with 2-1 overall records. The Patriots lived up to their ranking, handing the Cardinals a 20-4 loss.

Blake Blaisdell (JR/Romeo, MI) and Devin Wolever (JR/Battle Creek, MI) each recorded a pair of goals in the game. Joseph Loria (FR/Fenton, MI) made 15 saves for Concordia.

Joseph Loria recorded an early save in the contest, but University of the Cumberlands scored at the 12:35 mark of the 1st quarter. Ryan Iles (SO/Royal Oak, MI) and Brendan Pfeiffer (JR/Ypsilanti, MI) notched shots on goal for the Cardinals, but the Patriots held a 6-0 lead after the 1st.

Keshawn Simmons (FR/Detroit, MI) forced a key turnover early in the 2nd to stop a Patriot scoring opportunity. However, University of the Cumberlands continued to control the game with another 7 goals in the quarter. CUAA trailed 13-0 at halftime.

The Cardinals broke the shutout just over 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter when Devin Wolever scored in transition with Anthony Tucker (SR/Canton, MI) assisting. Blake Blaisdell added a goal in the final minute of the quarter as well. CUAA trailed 16-2 after the 3rd.

Concordia struck first in the 4th quarter when Devin Wolever added his 2nd goal of the game. Blake Blaisdell chipped in his second tally with 5 minutes left to play in the game. However, the Patriots went on to claim the win by a final score of 20-4.

The Cardinals will return home on Monday, March 9 when they host Saint Ambrose. The game is set to begin at 1pm as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.
