Cheer opens season with a pair of wins at Cardinal Invite

(Ann Arbor, MI) The Cardinal Cheer team opened up their season with a doubleheader competition at home Saturday afternoon. The three-time defending WHAC Championship Cardinals started off their season with a pair of strong performances, taking first place in both competitions.

In the first comp of the day, the Cardinals scored a raw total of 241.7 which averaged out to an 80.57 subtotal. After a 0.75 deduction the Cardinals' final score finished at 79.82, over five points higher than the rest of the competition. Point Park took second place with a 74.25 and Mount Vernon Nazarene ended in third with a 65.37.

In the second competition, Concordia posted a similar raw total of 241.6 for a subtotal of 80.53. A full point of deductions bumped the Cardinals down to a total score of 79.53. Point Park came in with a 72.57 total, giving CUAA the back to back victories on the day.

"There is a lot that goes into preparing for the first competition of the season," said Concordia Head Coach Kate Edge. "Increasing our difficulty was the first on our list. We are happy to see that we are getting those scores where they need to be."

The Cardinals will be back in action next Friday at the Cumberlands Patriots Spirit Invite in Williamsburg, Kentucky.

"Going forward we will be focusing on execution and doing what we do flawlessly," said Edge. "This team has great leadership, focus and drive. We are ready to get back to the grind."
