Moorman named 2nd Team NAIA All-American; Hinojosa earns Honorable Mention

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2023 Competitive Cheer All-America teams on Monday and Zion Moorman and Celina Hinojosa have been named as NAIA All-Americans. Moorman was named to the Second Team, while Hinojosa was named to the Honorable Mention list. This is the first time each athlete was honored by the NAIA.

To achieve NAIA All-America or Honorable Mention status, student-athletes participated in a tryout at the NAIA National Championship. Officials judged the athletes during the tryout and the All-American teams were determined by the judges' scores which took into account stunts, jumps and tumbling.

The accolades have been consistent for the Cardinals both individually and as a team this season. The Cardinals finished as runners-up at the NAIA National Championship last weekend and won the WHAC Championship for the fifth consecutive season.

"It is very exciting to have both our athletes who tried out make one of the teams," said Head Coach Kate Edge. "This is some of the toughest judging any athlete sees. Zion and Celina are strong athletes and competitors who bring a lot to our program. We are proud of both of them and grateful to the athletes (Eunique Robinson, Laine Thompson, Marissa Sullivan, Ella Kritzman) who came in to stunt with Zion and Celina so their tryout videos could be submitted."

Both Moorman and Hinojosa were named First Team All-Conference. Moorman was also named the WHAC Cheerleader of the Year and the Newcomer of the Year. Also named to the WHAC First Team were Eunique Robinson, Treneice Coleman-Kelley, Zoe Genette, and Breanna Ray. Alexia Glaze was honored with the WHAC Second Team All-Conference honors.

Moorman and Hinojosa join five other Cardinals who have earned All-American status as Kim Dade (2016, 2017), Ryan Baker (2017), and Fred Watts (2020) were named to All-American teams, while Brittany Palmer (2019), Watts (2019, 2021), and Hannah Rumsey (2021) were all named to honorable mention teams.
