Men's Soccer concedes late goal at Siena Heights; falls 1-0

(Adrian, MI) – Concordia men's soccer traveled to rival Siena Heights on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC conference clash.  The Cardinals had many key scoring chances and stayed on the attack, but a Saints goal in the 82nd minute held up as the game-winner.

Kyri Wixom played a complete game in goal.  Both teams traded early rushes with the Cardinal defense surviving an early corner kick.  Nicholas Corona took an early shot high of the goal and both Elijah Macke and Tristan Gabel threatened after a free kick.  The game remained knotted 0-0 at halftime.

Concordia generated three corner kick opportunities in the first 15 minutes of the second half.  After weathering a heavy Siena Heights attack, Elijah Macke took a through ball on the break and fired the team's first shot on goal.

The Saints converted in the 82nd minute to break the shutout.  Two late corner kicks from Elijah Boye and Artjoms Clifford generated traffic in front of the net, giving the Cardinals solid chances to score the equalizer.  However, Siena Heights was able to hang on to win 1-0.

The Cardinals will remain on the road next Wednesday, October 5 to face Cleary at 7pm.
