(Ann Arbor, MI) The Concordia Men's Soccer team took to Ferry Field at Cardinal Stadium for one last time in the 2022 season for a matchup against 14th ranked UNOH. The Cardinal celebrated their three seniors at halftime of the match. The Racers lived up to their billing and put on a strong offensive showing, defeating the Cardinals 7-0. Concordia was unable to get on the board despite a string of attacks from Luke Neuhaus in the second half.
The Racers had four corners within the first five minutes of the game, but the Cardinal defense was able to prevent any goals off of those.
It was seven minutes into the game when Avelino Rosa made a quick cut to his right and beat Kyri Wixom to put the Racers up. Minutes later Nic Baigrie took a rebound off the post from a Racer corner kick and made it a two goal advantage.
The Racers went up by three when Rosa connected with Tomas Echevarria in the fourteenth minute. Rosa scored his second of the day later in the first half to go up by four. Echevarria was able to get past Wixom for his second of the game and move the advantage to five.
In the second half, Simon Von Benzon beat Jose Garcia to put the Racers up six.
Luke Neuhaus provided a spark offensively for the Cardinals in the second half. He had a pair of shots stopped that led to Cardinal corner kicks around ten minutes into the second, but the Cardinals were unable to capitalize. Neuhaus then took a free kick from thirty yards out and kicked a low ground ball that nearly got past the Racer keeper. It was Neuhaus again that beat the Racer goalie from far out but had his shot just miss the far post. Moments later he had a header off a corner kick saved and then another header hit off the crossbar.
Diego Cerezo was able to increase the lead to seven with a goal at the near post from Simon Von Benzon.
The Cardinals will conclude their season with a road match at Cornerstone on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 in Grand Rapids.
