Men's tennis defeats Olivet College 8-1

The Concordia men's tennis team continued their competitive season this weekend with to matches. The Cardinals traveled to NCAA DIII opponent Olivet on Friday and then faced WHAC foe University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday. The Cardinals split the weekend defeating Olivet 8-1 and then lost to the Racers 6-1.

Edgar Bautista (FR) continued his early success as a Cardinals securing three total points for the Cardinals. Bautista cruised at first singles (6-1, 6-0) for the Cardinals and then picked up another point with his one doubles partner, James Olson (SO/Charlotte, MI). The duo was tested but prevailed, 8-5. Bautista was the lone point for the Cardinals against nationally ranked (19th) University of Northwestern Ohio. Bautista lost the first set in a tie-breaker, 6-7 (5-7), but eventually found his rhythm in the final two sets 6-3, 6-1.

James Olson (6-0, 6-2) and Ryan Curtis (SR/Hartland, MI) (6-0,6-0) dominated their matchups against Olivet at two and three singles. Adam DiMaggio (SO/Irmo, SC) and Ryan Curtis were also successful at two doubles cruising to an 8-2 win.

The victory over Olivet avenges a 2-5 defeat that the Cardinals suffered in the fall. The Cardinals will hit the practice courts for the next two weeks before hosting their next home match on Saturday, March 14th against Cornerstone. The match is scheduled to take place at 5:30pm at the Liberty Athletic Club.
