STUNT kicks off 2023 season

(Alma, MI) Concordia's STUNT team opened their season on the road with a tournament at Alma College. In the first contest of the day Alma had the shut-out over the Cards with a final score of 18-0.

"This first direct match of the season the team viewed a bit like a scrimmage. Because of the format of STUNT scheduling, we are just getting started with our season. In comparison many of these other schools, like Alma, are almost done with their regular season," explained Head Coach Kate Edge.

In the second match verse Central Michigan the Cards struggled in the first two quarters, but came back in the third and fourth to score points. However, it was no enough to overtake the Chippewas and the contest ended CMU 17- CUAA 7.

"Last year when we played CMU they beat us 21-2. We can see the growth of our program, as we scored more points and closed the gap a bit," according to Coach Edge. "We are excited to really get our season going and to continue to improve on routines and put more of what we have been working on out there."

In STUNT individual athletes receive "power ratings". These ratings combine an athlete's score for the round (earned when the team takes a point) times the level of routine. The more routines an athlete is in where the team earns points, the higher their "power rating" is for the game. The athletes who are in the most routines, have the best opportunity to be the top power athletes of each game.

The Power athletes for the second game were two freshmen #7 Savana Ruffner and #33 Xiomara Thurman tying for the top spot with 12 points. They were followed by fellow freshman #9 Mia Kornacki (10pts), then junior #8 Isabella Gambino (9pts) and sophomore #33 Nya Martinez (9pts).

The STUNT team next heads to Olivet on March 5th for games verse Olivet and Hiram.
