Women's hockey falls to the Wolverines 5-0

(Chelsea, MI) – The Cardinals hosted the University of Michigan in the first game of their weekend series with the Wolverines. The Cardinals defense held true throughout most of the game but fell to the Wolverines by a score of 5-0.

The 1st period was highlighted by the Cardinals keeper Lizzy Knappenberger (FR/Missouri City, TX) saving 34 out of 36 shots. The Wolverines opened up scoring at the 8:38 mark in the 1st period off an unassisted goal from Taylor Lunberg. Michigan's second goal came off a deflected clearance pass from Mackenzie Hewitt.

The Wolverines ripped 54 shots on net but were only able to come up with two more goals. Mackenzie Hewitt notched the third goal off an assist from Abigail Dobes. Three minutes later, Malia Levenson padded the Wolverines lead off a centering pass from Annabel Levinson. Michigan was able to add one more goal in the third period off a top shelf shot from Jordan Eliason. Lizzy Knappenberger posted a career high in saves by stopping 116 out of 121 shots.

The Cardinals next game will be on December 8th, in a rematch of tonight's matchup as they take on the Wolverines at Yost Arena, in Ann Arbor, MI.
