Women's hockey concludes season with weekend series against Davenport

(Chelsea, Mich.)The women's hockey team concluded their 2020 campaign on over the weekend in a home and away series with Davenport. The Cardinals fought to the final buzzer in Friday nights contest at the Arctic Coliseum but fell just short, 4-3. Davenport won the season finale on Saturday in Grand Rapids, 13-0.

Davenport scored first 4:55 into the game but the Cardinals held tough. Adrianna Rugiero (FR/Dearborn Heights, MI) put the Cardinals on the board to even the match with 2 minutes left in the period. Rugiero gave the Cardinals the lead, 2-1 on a short-handed (5 vs. 3) breakaway goal 11 minutes into the second period.

Davenport would eventually regain the lead with consecutive goals by Courtney Mulligan to make it 3-2 with 3 minutes left in the second period. The Cardinals evened the contest with just over a minute left in the period on a goal by Kassidy Scheben (FR/Union, KY).

Davenport scored at the nine minute mark and kept the league for good despite several desperation shots by the Cardinals.

Teagan Johnson was solid between the pipes for the Cardinals defense recording 28 saves.
