No. 9 Cardinals fall short in season finale to No. 7 Aquinas

(Chelsea, MI) – Concordia women's hockey hosted Aquinas on Saturday afternoon.  The Cardinals came in 3-4 overall while the Saints entered 8-0-1.  The Cardinals erased an early 2-0 deficit to take the lead, but Aquinas eventually pulled ahead in the third period for a 6-4 win.

 

Lizzy Knappenberger made 40 saves in goal for Concordia.   Reagan Tolley won the opening faceoff and Emily Greer notched the first shot on goal.  Aquinas scored 2 goals to take an early lead, but Kassidy Scheben cut into the deficit with an unassisted goal.  CUAA trailed 2-1 after the first period.

 

Reagan Tolley again won the opening faceoff in the second period.  The Cardinals killed off a penalty early in the period and Tolley tied the game with a goal assisted by Adrianna Rugiero.  The game remained tied 2-2 after the second period.

 

Reagan Tolley won the third period opening faceoff and put the Cardinals ahead with her second goal of the game assisted by Sydney SchuylerLizzy Knappenberger continued to make saves, but the Saints retook the lead with 2 more goals.  Kassidy Scheben tied the game on her second goal with 6:06 remaining, but Aquinas scored to take a 5-4 lead and added an empty-net goal.  Despite a strong effort, Concordia fell 6-4.
