Women's Tennis loses to Spring Arbor, beats Cornerstone in exhibition

(Spring Arbor, MI) The Cardinal women's tennis team returned to action following their first win of the season over Albion College with an away match against Spring Arbor University. Ultimately, Concordia would fall to the Cougars by a score of 6-1.

Charity Felton won the Cardinals' sole point during the match in dramatic fashion. The junior dropped the first set 3-6, but fought her way back in the second set to win 6-4. In the third and final set, Felton dominated her Cougar opponent, winning by a score of 6-1.

Other close matches for the Cards included Tina Perumalla in the number two singles competition. Perumalla forced the first set into a tiebreaker, which she narrowly lost, 7-5. In the second set the junior lost by a score of set 6-3.

In the 5th singles flight, Kayla Verhelle came close to coming away with a set as she fell in the tie breaker to her opponent, 7-3. Verhelle kept the match close in the second set as well, only losing by a score of 6-4.

Following the match against Spring Arbor, Concordia played an exhibition match against Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals came away with a victory in the exhibition thanks to great singles play. Perumalla, Maggie Tucker, Taylor Kahlstorf, and Verhelle all pulled out wins in their singles matches.

The Spring Arbor match and Cornerstone exhibition mark the end of the fall season for the Concordia tennis teams. The Cardinals will return this spring with a full slate of games including conference play in the WHAC.
