Fall Champions of Character and Scholar-Athletes Announced

Over the past couple of weeks, the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) have announced the Champions of Character awardees for each Fall 2023 sport as well as the Scholar-Athletes.

 

Throughout the six fall sports, the Cardinals would see 30 athletes being named to the WHAC Scholar-Athlete teams, with 40 being named to the NCCAA Scholar-Athlete team.

 

The WHAC Scholar-Athlete team's qualifications were a junior in academic standing and a cumulative GPA of 3.25. (Men's & Women's Golf is a Spring Sport for WHAC)

 

The NCCAA qualifications for Scholar athletes were for a junior or above in academic standing while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.40. (Men's & Women's Golf is a Fall Sport for NCCAA)

 

The Champions of Character were chosen for their commitment to the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

 

Men's Cross Country

Six members of the men's team qualified for the WHAC All-Academic team Luke Bentz, Theodore Eising, Adam Fisch, Avery Sanchez, Noah Starkey, and Jared Stiver.

 

Luke Bentz, Theodore Eising, Avery Sanchez, and Noah Starkey all met the qualifications for NCCAA Scholar-Athlete.

 

The team Champion of Character nomination for the WHAC was Jared Stiver.

 

Women's Cross Country

The All-Academic Women's Cross-Country team included Alison Doerr, Amanda Fogo, and Mary Salem.

 

Chloe Gunter was named to the Champions of Character Team.

 

Football

17 football players were announced as NCCAA Scholar Athletes. They are Gavin Brooks, James Carpenter, Harmon DeVries, Elijah Douglass, Gabe Dowling, William Dowling, Heath Flower, Maurice Kado, Colby Kohmescher, Logan Nahrwold-Settle, Tristen Needham, Evan Pittenger, Zaire Prioleau, Casey Rauch, Ryan Robinson, Jadan Vizina, and Andrew Wiemer.

 

The MSFA Scholar Athlete awards will be announced in early 2023.

 

Men's Golf

Gibson Wilke was the only male golfer named to NCCAA Scholar Athletes.

 

The WHAC Scholar Athletes and Champions of Character awards will be announced following the Spring 2023 Season.

 

 

Women's Golf

Four Women's golfers were named as NCCAA Scholar-Athletes. Lilly Alaspa, Amelia Black, Elle Fritcha, and Rachel Yuhas all met the qualifications.

 

The WHAC Scholar Athletes and Champions of Character awards will be announced following the Spring 2023 Season.

 

 

Men's Soccer

Five members of Men's Soccer received All-Academic honors, Caleb Comstock, Nicholas Kiafolis, Elijah Macke, Carl Pierce, and Andre Wangandu.

 

WHAC Champions of Character is Clemens Gehlich.

 

For NCCAA Scholar Athlete Caleb Comstock received recognition.

 

Women's Soccer

Six players from women's soccer received All-Academic honors, Danielle Bracken, Ambryn Diener, Kamryn Gerecke, Halle Kallsen, Kendra Lewis, and Samantha Pomponio.


Micayla McGee was named to the WHAC Champions of Character team. Coach Darus Ward was named Coach of Character.

Volleyball

Ten Volleyball players received WHAC All-Academic honors, Claudia Grepke, Julianna Helisek, Breann June, Madalyn Lisman, Andrea Nelson, Megan Neumann, Jessalyn Peavyhouse, Kayla Peters, Madison Phillips, and McKenzie Peters

 

WHAC Champion of Character is Breann June.
