Men's hockey falls short against Indiana Tech

Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's hockey hosted Indiana Tech in WHAC conference play on Friday night.  The Cardinals entered 1-2 overall, looking to even their record on the year.  CUAA hung tough with the Warriors throughout the game, but Indiana Tech held on to claim a 3-1 win.

 

Elijah Gibbons started in net for Concordia, making 42 saves in the game.  Jacob Gerace took the first shot on goal as the Cardinals looked to feed off the energy of their fans.  CUAA survived a heavy barrage of shots early, but Indiana Tech scored on the powerplay to take a 1-0 lead after the first period.

 

Abel Christians won the opening faceoff in the second period.  Indiana Tech extended their lead with a goal 11:18 into the period, but the Cardinals countered less than 30 seconds later with a goal by Jarod Segal.  Concordia received a powerplay chance later in the period, but the team trailed 2-1 heading to the 3rd.

 

Abel Christians won the third-period opening faceoff.  Concordia killed off a penalty and generated multiple rushes into the Indiana Tech zone as the team looked to get back in the game.  The Cardinals pulled their goalie late in the game with Tyler Groth coming close to jamming in a goal in the final minute.  However, Indiana Tech added an empty-net goal and secured the 3-1 win.

 

The Cardinals will travel to Indiana Tech tomorrow at 5:30pm to complete the weekend series.
