Baseball completes season sweep of UM-Dearborn

(Ann Arbor, MI) Concordia Baseball hosted Michigan-Dearborn Sunday afternoon for a conference doubleheader. Despite cold temperatures, the Cardinal bats came out on fire winning game one 24-4 before taking game two 10-0.

 

Game 1: Concordia 24 - Michigan Dearborn 4

 

Kyle Winslow started on the mound for CUAA, as he went an impressive 4 innings only allowing two runs while compiling 5 strikeouts to move to 2-0 on the season. Dylan Kints, Marcus Bugeja, and Brad Oltersdorf all followed that up with an inning of relief of their own, giving the Cardinal offense the chance to take home the game.

 

Josh Burke got things started in the first inning with an RBI single. Tyler Wressel hit a double to follow that up bringing in two more runs. Justin Kozlowski then hit Tyler Lawson in on an RBI single. A bunt from Gus Simon caused chaos which led to another run. Harrison Ryan wrapped up the first inning scoring with an RBI double to the right-center gap to bring in Simon, making the score 6-0 after one.

 

Tyler Wressel hit another RBI double in the second inning to make the score 7-0. The third inning saw the Cardinals tally nine more runs, as they went all the way through the lineup. It started with two runs scoring on an error from the Wolverines. Jake Kuhlman and Derek Hebner were able to bring in runs on RBI knocks of their own. Kozlowski, Alex Piotrowski, and Harrison Ryan all walked with the bases loaded to make the score 15-0. Matthew Dubrick wrapped up the third inning scoring with an RBI groundout to make it 16-0 after three. 

 

Michigan-Dearborn was able to respond with two runs in the top of the fourth inning to make it 16-2. Tyler Lawson quickly responded with an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to make it 17-2. The Wolverines scored two more in the top of the fifth inning, but they were held scoreless for the remainder of the game. A Kyle Hebner walk made it 18-4 to begin the bottom of the fifth inning's scoring. Alex Cyzewski hit a sac fly in the inning to score Darren Pagel. Ty Schornak also singled in the inning to score Ryan Dixon, making the score 22-4 after five innings. Marcus Bugeja took the mound in the sixth inning and threw a scoreless frame for CUAA.

 

Matthew Dubrick singled to score Clayton Mckinstry in the sixth inning before Darren Pagel followed that up with his own RBI single to make the score 24-4. A scoreless top of the seventh from Brad Oltersdorf gave the Cardinals a big victory in game one of the doubleheader.

 

Game 2: Concordia 10 - Michigan-Dearborn 0

 

Ethan Pollard was the story of game two, as he went all seven innings allowing zero runs on just five scattered hits. His nine strikeouts were his career high in a Cardinal uniform as well. 

 

The Cardinals once again got things started quickly as a double from Derek Hebner brought home Matthew Dubrick and Jake Kuhlman. Tyler Wressel then brought him home with his own RBI double. Justin Kozlowski hit a sac fly to score Tyler Lawson and make the score 4-0 after one. 

 

Wrestle tripled in the third inning to score Jake Kuhlman and Josh Burke. Kozlowski then brought home Lawson again, this time on an error from the Wolverines. In the seventh inning, Josh Burke scored Kuhlman on an RBI single to make the score 8-0. Kozlowski then grounded out to the shortstop, but Alex Czyzewski and Lawson were able to score to make the score 10-0 and end the game there in run rule fashion.

 

The Cardinals are back in action on the road this Wednesday as they head to Siena Heights for a non conference doubleheader beginning at 1pm in Adrian, Michigan!
