Baseball falls in first series finale

(Easley, SC) Concordia Baseball headed to South Carolina today for a nine inning game with IU Columbus to wrap up their three game series. The Cardinals fought hard, but fell in the end 6-4.

 

Concordia 4 – IU Columbus 6

Drew Murphy started the game for CUAA, compiling two strikeouts through two innings. Blake Weaver came on in relief in the third inning, and pitched six innings only giving up two runs while striking out seven. Kenneth (Dave) Rozmys came on and pitched the ninth inning for CUAA.

 

IU Columbus came out of the gates hot and scored twice in the first inning with singles from Cyrus Robinson and Johnny Sewell. A pitching duel took place for the next few innings before Jake Kuhlman and Garrett Williams were able to move up on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth and give the Cardinals their first run of the game. 

 

The Crimson Pride responded in the seventh with two more runs to go up 4-1. CUAA then tied the game up at 4 in the eighth inning with Tyler Lawson, Gus Simon, and Jake Kuhlman scoring on an error and two passed balls. In the ninth inning IUC was able to find the gap for a two run lead to take the lead at 6-4 in what would be the final score of this game. 

 

Next up for the Cardinals is two games against Toccoa Falls College in Georgia on Monday beginning at 11am.
