(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has announced their weekly Players of the Week and Concordia Cardinals third baseman, Josh Burke, and pitcher Drew Murphy earned honors this week following the team's 6-0 week and aiding the the team to extend their win streak to 20 games.
Burke, a senior from Macomb, Michigan, earned WHAC and NCCAA Player of the Week as he batted .444 with a 1.500 slugging percentage, crushing six home runs on the week, totaling 14 RBIs. In addition, seven of his eight hits on the week went for extra bases while he would also go on to score nine runs.
Murphy, a senior from Sturgis, Michigan, was named NCCAA Pitcher of the Week as he pitched in a pair of Cardinal wins, earning the win in one of them. Murphy came into the game on Sunday in relief against the Yellow Jackets and shut down the DC offense. Through five innings, he allowed three hits total and one earned run while striking out seven total batters. He had WHIP of 1.00 on the week and an ERA of 1.29.
Burke earns his first WHAC Player of the Week award as he joins Gus Simon as the only other Cardinal this season to earn a WHAC Player of the Week award. Burke and Murphy join Blake Weaver, Tyler Wressel, Ethan Pollard, and Jake Kuhlman as Cardinals who earned NCCAA Athletes of the Week.
The Cardinals have a pair of double headers this week against Aquinas and Defiance with both games on the road on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
