Preview: Competitive dance set to host WHAC Championship

The Concordia dance team will conclude their regular season at the WHAC Championship on Friday. Concordia will serve as the rotational host as this is the first year that the WHAC Dance Championship is separate from competitive cheer. The Cardinals have shown continued improvement and growth throughout the season and have a goal of deduction free round on Friday.

Concordia University Field House – Concordia will maintain their current spectator policy which allows for a limited number of family members and essential staff. No outside spectators from participating teams will be permitted.

Dance Competition – The order of performance will be established in a coaches meeting prior to the event. The first performance is scheduled to take place around 7:20pm

The WHAC Championship for dance will feature four teams; Aquinas, Concordia, Madonna and Siena Heights. Madonna will compete virtually.

Teams will compete for the WHAC Championship with each team performing two routines. The first routine will be the preliminary round which will count towards 25% of the overall score. The Final round score will make up 75% of the overall score. The winner of the competitions will secure an automatic bid to the NAIA Northeast Regional Qualifier next weekend.

 

2020 Results

This will be the second year the WHAC has recognized dance as a championship sport and the first year that it's been a separate championship from competitive cheer. Last year Aquinas took home the WHAC Championship with a total score of 84.96. Concordia took fourth overall with a total score of 47.7. Last year five teams competed in the championship.

 

  

WHAC Awards

The WHAC will honor participating members that have achieved success in the classroom, on the mat, and in the community. The all-conference selections voted on by the WHAC coaches will be selected as well as all-academic for those that are of junior status and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25. Each school has nominated a student-athlete that has embodied the five core values of the NAIA which are respect, integrity, servant leadership, responsibility, and sportsmanship. A coach will also be named the WHAC Champion of Character which is voted on by coaches of other participating WHAC member institutions.
