Dances takes third at WHAC Championship; Koshowsky named Newcomer of the Year

(Ann Arbor, Mich.) The Concordia dance team concluded their 2020 season at the WHAC Championships on Friday. This was the second year the WHAC recognized dance as a championship sport. The Cardinals served as the rotational host. And place third overall. The Cardinals recorded an overall score of 62.97.

 

The Cardinals recorded a 66 in the preliminary round with zero deductions. Per WHAC and NAIA scoring only 25% of the preliminary round counts toward the overall total while 75% counts for the final round. In the final round, the Cardinals recorded 61.97 with .50 in deductions. After the deductions the final total came to 62.97 in the competitive field.

 

Coach Strom was proud of the team's performance and continued improvement displayed throughout the season. "We faced tough competition as our conference has some of the best teams in the country," said Strom. "We are so proud of this team for continuing to step up to the challenges they have faced this season. They put two very solid routines out on the floor today. We look forward to continuing to work on our execution and overall performance this week as we prepare for the NAIA Northeast Regional Qualifier event."

 

Aquinas secured their second consecutive WHAC Competitive Dance Championship with a final score of 85.85. Other participating schools included Siena Heights and Madonna.  

 

The WHAC announced their season awards at the event with several Cardinals being recognized. Freshman standout Lindsey Koshowsky was named Newcomer of the Year as well as first team all-conference honors. Head Coach Beth Strom was also voted by her peers as the WHAC Champions of Character Coach.

 

Kelly Crorey (JR/Marine City, MI) repeated as a member of the all academic team as she met the WHAC requirements of a junior academic status while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.25. Emma Weber was named the Cardinals recipient of the WHAC Champions of Character. This award is given to a representative from each participating institution that displays the five core values of the NAIA which are respect, integrity, responsibility, servant leadership, and sportsmanship.

 

The Cardinals will now shift their attention to post season competition. The dance team will compete in the NAIA Northeast Regional Qualifier hosted by St. Ambrose next Friday. With a strong showing, the Cardinals will look to secure their bid at the NAIA Competitive Dance National Championships.
