Men's Track & Field Earns Multiple NCCAA Qualifiers in Season Opener

(Saginaw, MI) - The Men's Track and Field team opened their indoor season at Saginaw Valley State University as part of the Holiday Open. The men had three athletes earn NCAA qualifying marks, seven personal bests and one collegiate debut.

The Cardinals had two throwers who qualified for weight throw. Scott Smith (Senior; Saginaw, MI) led the way with a distance of 13.65 meters. Ryan Reynolds (Junior; Northville, MI) threw a qualifying mark of 13.07 meters and a personal best distance. Jesse Leitzow (Sophomore; St. Clair Shores, MI) and Gerard Noel (Sophomore; Canton, MI) both threw personal best in weight with distances of 11.70 and 11.56 meters. Dawson Kolka (Freshman; Sanford, MI) made his collegiate debut in weight throw with a distance of 10.96 meters.

In the shot put, Leitzow leads the way with a throw of 12.36 meters. Smith, Reynolds and Noel all threw their personal best with distances of 12.02, 11.30 and 11.13 meters.

Zak Schroeder (Junior; Napoleon, OH) was the only one to compete on the track. Schroeder ran to new personal bests in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. He ran an NCCAA Qualifying time of 52.50 in the 400 while running 23.75 in the 200.

The team will take a break for the holidays. They will return on January 11 at Aquinas College for the Jon Flamino Classic.
