Men’s Track & Field Finishes Tied for Ninth in Final WHAC Indoor Championships

(Fort Wayne, IN) - The men's track and field team finished their Indoor Track and Field season at the WHAC Championships on Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15. The men's team earned one point and tied for ninth place with Cleary University.

The championships started with throwing events, as Jesse Lietzow (Sophomore; St.Clair Shores, MI) finished in ninth place with a distance of 13.33 meters. Scott Smith (Senior; Saginaw, MI) finished second on the Cardinals with a throw of 11.40 meters. Dawson Kolka (Freshman; Sanford,MI) and Gerard Noel (Sophomore; Canton,MI) competed in the shot put. Kolka finished with a throw of 10.52 meters and Noel finished with a throw of 9.05 meters.

In the weight throw, Ryan Reynolds (Junior; Northville, MI) finished in 11th place with a distance of 15 meters. Smith finished second on the team with a throw of 14.63 meters. Kolka threw a personal best distance of 11.87 meters, while Noel finished the competition at 9.05 meters.

As running events started on Saturday, Dominic Catallo (Sophomore; Westland, MI) ran to a season-best time of 4:57. Catallo and Zak Schroeder (Junior; Napoleon, OH) also competed in the 800. Schroeder ran to a season-best effort of 2:06. Catallo ran to a final time of 2:17.

Eric Breidert (Freshman; Wenatchee, WA) ran in the 3k to wrap up distance running events and ran to a new personal record time of 11:01.

In sprinting events, Dylan Anderson (Sophomore; Ottawa Lake, MI) ran to a season-best time in the 200 with a final time of 25.47. Hayden Prone (Sophomore; Fort Gratiot, MI) also ran in the 200 with a final time of 26.60.

Anderson and Prone also ran the 400. Anderson ran a season-best time of 56 seconds, while Prone ran a time of 59 seconds.

Prone, Schroeder, Catallo and Anderson came together to empower the 4x400 relay team to an eighth-place finish and earn the only point of the meet. They finished in a final time of 3:43.

Schroeder was named the WHAC champion of character athlete for the team.

The team will take some time off to recover from indoors. They will begin their outdoor campaign at Indiana Wesleyan on March 21 and 22.
