Men's Track and Field competes at Jet's Pizza Invite

(Saginaw, MI) The men's track and field team returned to action at the Jet's Pizza Invitational on Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1, at Saginaw Valley State University. The Cardinals earned five new personal records and four new collegiate marks.

The meet started strong as the throwers earned four personal records in weight throw. Ryan Reynolds (Junior; Northville,MI) led the way with a throw of 15.46 meters. Jesse Leitzow (Sophomore; St. Clair Shores, MI) threw a new best distance of 12.83 meters. Gerard Noel (Sophomore; Canton,MI) and Dawson Kolka (Freshman) also earned a new best distance with throws of 11.98 and 11.35 meters. All five throwers also competed in the shot put, where Leitzow led the way, with a distance of 13.49 meters. He was followed by Senior Scott Smith (12.26m), Reynolds (11.10m) and Noel (10.43m). Kolka made his collegiate debut in shot put with a distance of 10.82 meters.

Hayden Prone (Sophomore; Fort Gratiot, MI) and Dylan Anderson (Sophomore; Ottawa Lake, MI) made their collegiate debuts in the 60-meter dash, finishing with 7.94 and 7.96 seconds, respectively. They both also competed in the 200-meter dash. Prone ran to a new personal record time of 25.92 seconds. Anderson ran a season-best time of 25.55 seconds. Zak Schroeder (Junior; Napoleon, OH) also competed in the 200 and finished at 24.65. Prone finished up his busy weekend with a 400 and finished in a time of 59.58 seconds.

Schroeder joined Dominic Catallo (Sophomore; Westland,MI) in the 800-meter run. Schroeder ran to the season-best time of 2:09 and was followed by Catallo at 2:13 after being out with sickness. To wrap up the team meeting, Eric Breidert (Freshman; Wenatchee, WA) moved up distances to make his collegiate debut in the 3k. Breidert finished in a time of 11:06.

A few athletes will head to Cedarville, Ohio, on February 7-8 for the NCCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, while the rest of the team will prepare for the WHAC Championships, hosted by Indiana Tech, on February 14-15.
