Spring Champions of Character and Scholar-Athletes Announced

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Over the past couple of weeks the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) have announced the Champions of Character awardees for each Spring 2024 sports as well as the Scholar-Athletes. 

 

Throughout the 11 winter and spring sports, the Cardinals would see 83 athletes being named to the WHAC Scholar-Athlete teams, with 38 being named to the NCCAA Scholar-Athlete team.

 

The WHAC Scholar-Athlete team's qualifications were a junior in academic standing and a cumulative GPA of 3.25.

 

The NCCAA qualifications for Scholar athletes were for a junior or above in academic standing while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.40. 

 

The Champions of Character were chosen for their commitment to the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

 


BASEBALL

18 Cardinals made the WHAC All-Academic Team as Trey Acker, Marcus Bugeja, Drew Fleming, Derek Hebner, Evan Jasiak, Justin Kozlowski, Bryon Mane, Mackenzie Martin, Drew Murphy, Brad Oltersdorf, Ethan Orlowski, Ryan Patterson, Harrison Ryan, Curtis Townsend, Jack Vrba, Blake Weaver, Aaron West, and Kyle Winslow were all honored. 

 

11 Cardinals were named as NCCAA Scholar-Athletes with Marcus Bugeja, Evan Jasiak, Justin Kozlowski, Bryon Mane, Drew Murphy, Ryan Patterson, Harrison Ryan, Jack Vraba, Blake Weaver, Aaron West, and Kyle Winslow being honored. 

 

The team Champion of Character was Curtis Townsend. 

 


MEN'S GOLF

Three Cardinals were named to the WHAC All-Academic team as Zakary Schroeder, Andrew Sweitzer, and Gibson Wilke were honored.

 

The NCCAA announced their Scholar-Athletes for golf in the fall

 

Neil Heinlein was named the team's Champion of Character. 

 


WOMEN'S GOLF

Five Cardinals were named to the WHAC All-Academic team with Lilly Alaspa, Amelia Black, Ellesyn Fritcha, Callie Wabeke, and Rachel Yuhas being honored. 

 

The NCCAA announced their Scholar-Athletes for golf in the fall

 

Rachel Yuhas was the team's Champion of Character. 

 


MEN'S LACROSSE

Nine Cardinals were named to the team including Sam Bowling, Patrick Broderick, Cameron Dixon, Michael Hart, Luke Hovarter, Richard Johnson, Hunter McCarty, Ross Preston, and Gavin Scally. 

 

Gavin Scally was recognized as the team's Champion of Character.

 


WOMEN'S LACROSSE

The Cardinals saw five members named to the Scholar-Athlete team including Tara Drinane, Madisyn Fox, Isabella Komarowski, Alana Mortimer, and Megan Soop. 

 

Megan Soop was named the team's Champion of Character. 

 


SOFTBALL

17 Cardinals were named to the team which included Paige Anderson, Summer Brady, Elyse Brittain, Brooklin Cox, Hannah Duchene, Jayla Foster, Maddy Grueter, Cassidy Kane, Bella Lee, Payton Lewis, Megan Martin, Shannon McAlinden, Lauryn Rhodea, Jada Stephenson, Emma Thompson, Caitlyn Traviglia, and Sarah Tyrrell. 

 

13 different Cardinals were honored by the NCCAA on their Scholar-Athlete list with Paige Anderson, Elyse Brittain, Hannah Duchene Maddy Grueter, Cassidy Kane, Bella Lee, Payton Lewis, Megan Martin, Shannon McAlinden, Lauryn Rhodea, Jada Stpehenson, Caitlyn Traviglia, and Srah Tyrell all honored. 

 

Kaleigh McClelland was the team's Champions of Character. 

 


MEN'S TENNIS

Ethan Hiltz was the sole Cardinal Scholar-Athlete for the WHAC. 

 

Ethan Hiltz was honored as the team's Champions of Character. 

 


WOMEN'S TENNIS

Six Cardinals hit the WHAC qualifications for Scholar-Athlete including Amelia Black, Ellesyn Fritcha, Hollie Johnson, Sydney Orkisz, Makayla Steinmetz, and Jorja Vartoogian

 

The Cardinals NCCAA Scholar-Athletes were Amelia Black, Elleysn Fritcha, and Hollie Johnson. 

 

Jacey Powell was named to the WHAC Champions of Character team. 

 


MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

The 10 WHAC Scholar-Athletes included Luke Bentz, Theodore Eising, Noah Finley, Adam Fisch, Maurice Kado, Zakary Schroeder, Scott Smith, Noah Starkey, Jared Stiver, and Avery Sanchez. 

 

The seven Cardinals NCCAA Scholar Athletes were Luke Bentz, Theodore Eising, Maurice Kado, Avery Sanchez, Scott Smith, Noah Starkey and Jared Stiver. 

 

Dylan Ladmirault was named to the WHAC Champions of Character team.

 


WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

Nine Cardinals were named to the WHAC Scholar-Athlete team as Madelyn Ankoviak, Alison Doerr, Amanda Fogo, Julia Hirt, Morgan Jenkins, Lena Korte, Lily Kueber, Hailey Stsiukinas, and Quinn Stefanski were honored. 

 

For the NCCAA four Cardinals were honored as Scholar-Athletes Julia Hirt, Lena Korte, Lily Kueber, and Hailey Stsiukinas were honored. 

 

Hailey Stasiukinas was named to the WHAC Champions of Character team.
