WHAC PREVIEW: Dance set to compete at WHAC Championships

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals dance team will compete this Friday at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Championship. The rotational host this season will be Madonna. The Cardinals have seen improved scores this season as they have set the school record multiple times this season.

The WHAC Championship for dance will feature six teams; Aquinas, Concordia, Lawrence Tech, Lourdes, Madonna, and Siena Heights

 

Teams will compete for the WHAC Championship with each team performing two routines. The first routine will be the preliminary round which will count toward 25% of the overall score. The Final round score will make up 75% of the overall score. In the event of a tie, the score from the finals will be used to break the tie. The championship event also serves as the direct qualifier for the NAIA Competitive Cheer National Championship.

 


2021 RESULTS

Aquinas came away with the WHAC Championship last season putting up a score of 82.08. The Cardinals finished in fifth place with a score of 44.4 points. 

 


2022 SEASON REVIEW

The Cardinals so far this season have taken to the mat six times. CUAA has taken home one first-place finish at the Battle in the Big Easy last weekend in a dual match against Dillard. They also have three second-place finishes in the year. 

 

The dance team took home a third-place finish at the Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT) this season. This score does not go toward their season average.

WHAC AWARDS

All-Conference Team Awards are determined by the officiating panel during the tryout period after the team competition. Participants must perform the following advanced skills with superior technique: leaps, triple pirouette, turn combination, and an audition combination which consists of four 8-counts of Jazz, Pom, and Hip Hop choreography.

 

The WHAC will honor participating members that have achieved success in the classroom, on the mat, and in the community. The all-conference selections voted on by the WHAC coaches will be selected as well as all-academic for those that are of junior status and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25. Each school has nominated a student-athlete that has embodied the five core values of the NAIA which are respect, integrity, servant leadership, responsibility, and sportsmanship. A coach will also be named the WHAC Champion of Character which is voted on by coaches of other participating WHAC member institutions.
