Cardinals post strong outing at John Harpence Invitational

In their last regular season meet before conference, Cardinals Track & Field won big at the John Hartpence Invitational hosted by Defiance College. 

 

The throws squad shined in today's meet, with all members throwing personal bests! Senior Eric Bugg (Ida, MI) won the men's shot put with a toss of 13.95m, a new personal record, and the men's weight throw with a massive throw of 15.26m, also a personal record.  

 

Sophomore Zachary Belinsky (Beluah, MI) took 2nd in the men's shot put with a throw of 11.72m, and 3rd in the weight throw with a toss of 11.60m. The rest of the men's throws squad saw big wins with new personal records - Richard Branch (Jr; Detroit, MI) threw 10.89m in the shot put and 10.68m in the weight throw; Noah Pastrana (Sr; Dayton, OH) threw 10.94 in the weight throw; and Josh Wood (Fr; Champagne, IL) tossed 6.87m in the shot put and 6.79m in the weight throw. 

 

Women's field events also saw major success. Sierra Stechebar (So; Rockford, MI) won the women's high jump with a jump of 1.50m. Payton Lovins (Jr; Wauseon, OH) and Hayle Flowers (Jr; Waverly, MI) also saw success in their events. Lovins threw new personal records of 7.29m and 8.71m in the shot put and weight throw. Flowers took 2nd place in the women's shot put with a toss of 8.76m, a new personal best for her. Flowers also went on to compete in the 200m (30.94) and long jump (4.13m). 

 

On the track side, Avery Sanchez (So; Allen Park, MI) won the 1,000m with a time of 3:00.10. Sanchez was also a member of the 2nd place 4x400m team (3:55.14)  Other members of the 4x400m team included Noah Starkey (Fr; Macomb, MI), Teddy Eising (Fr; Royal Oak, MI), and Ameir Wilbourn (Fr; Chicago, IL). Race anchor Noah Starkey also took 2nd in the 400m with a time of 54.21, and ran 23.81 in the 200m- both of which are personal bests for him. In addition to the 4x400m, Eising ran a time of 2:19.96 in the men's 800m, and Wilbourn raced in the 60m dash (7.33) and the 200m (24.62). 

 

Rounding out the men's track performances are Adam Dimaggio (Jr; Irmo, SC), who ran 5:13.40 in the men's mile, and sprinter Alan Jones (Sr; Canton, MI) who ran the 60m dash (7.18). 

 

On the women's side of the track, Mae Dulin (Sr; Detroit, MI) ran a season best of 27.37 in the 200m, taking 3rd place place. Dulin also ran the 60m dash, running 8.38 and was first leg in the winning 4x400m team (4:44.24). Fellow sprinter and third leg of the 4x400 was Amanda Wood (Fr; Macomb, MI) who also took 2nd in the women's 600m, racing 1:45.58. Second leg of the relay was Lydia Schroeder (Jr; Napoleon, OH) who ran 3:33.24 in the women's 1,000m. The relay's anchor, Seneca Miller (Grad Student, Ypsilanti, MI), debuted today in the 400m (62.7) and 200m (28.02). Rounding out the women's track team, Meg Espinoza (Fr; Manistique, MI), ran a time of 6:15.93 in the women's mile, just missing her 1600m personal best.
