Softball splits in doubleheader at Lourdes

(Sylvania, OH) - CUAA softball traveled to Lourdes University on Wednesday afternoon to continue WHAC play The Cardinals picked up a 5-0 shutout win in game one before falling 5-4 in game two. 

 

GAME ONE – CUAA 5, Lourdes 0 

 

Paige Anderson pitched a complete game with four strikeouts The Cardinals opened scoring in the third inning when Megan Martin hit a double to drive in Payton Lewis.   

 

In the fourth inning, Elyse Brittain hit an RBI single to score Maddy Greuter Morgan Scott then used a single to drive in Brittain Madalyne Wieneke capped the inning with an RBI groundout to send Emmi Liptow home.   

 

In the seventh inning, Emmi Liptow hit an RBI single to drive in Maddy Greuter The Cardinals maintained the shutout for a 5-0 victory. 

 

GAME TWO – Lourdes 5, CUAA 4 

 

Hannah Duchene pitched the first two innings of the game The Cardinals opened scoring in the second inning when Elyse Brittain hit a 2-run homer.   

 

In the third inning, Maddy Greuter used an RBI single to drive in Emmi Liptow Lourdes scored three runs in the bottom half to tie the game 3-3 Elyse Brittain came into pitch and recorded two strikeouts in the final four innings.   

 

In the fifth inning, the Cardinals took a 4-3 lead when Maddy Greuter singled to score Payton Lewis However, Lourdes scored two runs in the bottom half to take a 5-4 lead.  

 

The Cardinals were unable to mount a comeback and fell 5-4 in game two.  

 

The Cardinals will return home Saturday, April 12th, to host Rochester Christian for a doubleheader at starting at 1pm.
