(Ann Arbor, MI) - CUAA softball hosted University of Michigan-Dearborn on Thursday afternoon for a WHAC doubleheader. The Cardinals won 8-3 in game one. Game two was suspended in the 11th inning due to darkness with the score tied 11-11.
GAME ONE – CUAA 8, UM Dearborn 3
Paige Anderson pitched a complete game with six strikeouts. UM Dearborn scored first with one run in the first inning. The Cardinals countered in the second inning when Elyse Brittain hit a solo home run.
In the third inning, Faith Cramton scored an RBI double to score Katie Tobias. Madalyne Wieneke crushed a 2-run homer in the fourth inning to extend the lead.
In the fifth inning, Faith Cramton used an RBI single to drive in Megan Martin. Elyse Brittain added a single to score Brooklin Cox. Bella Lee continued the inning with an RBI single driving in Maddy Greuter. Emmi Liptow capped the inning with an RBI single to send Lauryn Rhodea to home.
UM Dearborn scored one run in the sixth and seventh innings. The Cardinal defense was able to secure an 8-3 victory.
GAME TWO: CUAA 11, UM Dearborn 11 – eleven innings
Hannah Duchene started on the mound followed by Kendall Kahl, who made one strikeout in 1.2 innings. UM Dearborn took a 5-0 lead after the top of the first. In the bottom half, Faith Cramton crushed a 3-run homer to pull the Cardinals closer. UM Dearborn added two more runs in the second inning. Elyse Brittain came on to pitch, recording four strikeouts in the next five innings. In the bottom of the second, Katie Tobias used an RBI groundout to score Emmi Liptow. Payton Lewis later reached home on a throwing error.
UM Dearborn added two more runs in the third inning. In the fourth inning, Faith Cramton answered with a 2-RBI double. In the fifth inning, Summer Brady singled to score Bella Lee and Payton Lewis used a single to drive in Morgan Scott and tie the game 9-9. Katie Tobias added a 2-RBI single to give the Cardinals the lead. However, UM Dearborn scored two runs in the seventh inning to tie the game 11-11.
Paige Anderson came on to pitch the last 3.1 innings, making one strikeout. The game remained tied after the seventh and headed to extra innings. Both defenses held strong and the game was called in the 11th inning due to darkness.
CUAA will travel to Aquinas College this Saturday, April 26th, for a doubleheader at 1pm.
