(Sylvania, OH) - CUAA softball competed on day one of the WHAC Tournament on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals fell 2-1 against Indiana Tech in the first contest, but the team rallied to triumph against University of Michigan-Dearborn 4-1.
GAME ONE: Indiana Tech 2, CUAA 1
Paige Anderson pitched a complete game with two strikeouts. Indiana Tech opened scoring in the first inning with a 2-run homer.
Madalyne Wieneke trimmed the deficit in half with a solo home run in the third inning. In the fifth inning, Summer Brady reached first base on an error and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Madalyne Wieneke. However, the Cardinals were unable to score the tying run.
The Cardinal defense continued to hold Indiana Tech in check, but the team fell 2-1.
GAME TWO: CUAA 4, UM-Dearborn 1
Hannah Duchene threw a complete game, racking up six strikeouts. Katie Tobias opened scoring in the third inning with a 2-run homer.
UM-Dearborn got on the board with a run in the fourth inning. Katie Tobias extended the lead with another 2-run homer in the fifth inning.
The Cardinals turned a double play to close out the sixth inning. Hannah Duchene took down all three batters she faced in the seventh inning to secure a 4-1 victory.
CUAA will play Cornerstone on May 1st, at 4pm in the second round of the WHAC Tournament.
