Softball splits with LTU

(Beverly Hills, MI) - CUAA softball traveled to Lawrence Tech on Sunday afternoon for a WHAC doubleheader.  The Cardinals fell 6-3 in game one before bouncing back to earn an 11-8 victory in game two.   

 

GAME ONE – LTU 6, CUAA 3  

 

Paige Anderson pitched a complete game with five strikeouts Lawrence Tech scored two runs in the first inning and one run in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead.   

 

In the fourth inning, Maddy Grueter hit into a double play which scored Megan Martin Lawrence Tech countered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.   

 

In the sixth inning, Faith Cramton hit an RBI double to drive in Megan Martin. Elyse Brittain then singled to score Cramton However, the Blue Devils maintained their lead and took a 6-3 win in game one. 

 

GAME TWO – CUAA 11, LTU 8 

 

Elyse Brittain started game two on the mound, making two strikeouts in 3.1 innings. In the first inning, Maddy Greuter hit into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded to drive in Payton Lewis Kendall Kahl then crushed a grand slam to clear the bases for a 5-0 lead Lawrence Tech countered with one run in the bottom half. 

 

In the second inning, Megan Martin used an RBI groundout to score Emmi Liptow In the third inning, Emmi Liptow hit an RBI single to drive in Elyse Brittain Megan Martin hit a bunt RBI double to drive in Kendall Kahl Payton Lewis capped the inning with a sacrifice bunt to send Emmi Liptow home.   

 

Lawrence Tech began to rally with three runs in the fourth inning Hannah Duchene pitched the final 3.2 innings, making two strikeouts.   

 

Lawrence Tech trimmed the lead to 9-6 after two runs in the fifth inning The Cardinals answered in the top of the sixth on a 2-RBI double from Faith Cramton In the bottom half, Lawrence Tech added two more runs to pull closer. However, the Cardinals maintained their lead for an 11-8 victory. 

 

CUAA will travel to Lourdes this Wednesday, April 9th, for a doubleheader starting at 3:30pm.
