Women's Hockey drops series against Penn State

(University Park, PA) Penn State and Concordia battled in a CCWHA East Division contest on Saturday evening. The game, very similarly to the night before, was back and forth, eventually resulting in a 5-3 win for PSU.

The Lions were off to a quick start, scoring a goal just over three minutes into the contest and tacking on a powerplay goal just under 9 minutes in. The Cardinals responded with 9:54 remaining in the frame, as Sydney Schuyler scored a goal that was assisted by Grace Dodgson. Penn State bounced back with another goal as they carried a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

PSU struck with their fourth goal of the game early in the frame, but Concordia responded quickly in the second period, as Adrianna Rugiero then got on the board, scoring less than halfway into the period to cut the lead to two. Rugiero also picked up an assist as Grace Dodgson scored her 15th goal of the season with 2:40 remaining in the frame, and Penn State took a one goal lead into the break.

The Lions came out fighting in the third period, scoring within the first three and a half minutes to double their lead. The Cardinals fought hard, but were unable to get any closer, as the game would conclude with a 5-3 Penn State victory.

Alana Mortimer made her first start of the year, recording an impressive 46 saves in net.

This was the final game of the semester for the Concordia women's hockey team, as they'll have nearly a month off before returning to action with a CCWHA doubleheader against 2nd-ranked Adrian on January 8th and 9th.
