Women's Hockey blanked by UM-Dearborn

(Chelsea, MI) The Concordia woman's hockey team took on the UM-Dearborn Wolverines on Friday night in Chelsea. The Cardinals battled throughout the contest, but UMD took an early lead and pulled through with a 4-0 victory.

 

The Wolverines jumped out to a blazing start, recording a goal just 20 seconds into the contest. The Cardinals would fight back in the period, tying UM-Dearborn in shots with 14 in the frame. The Wolverine goalie stood firm, though, making multiple big time saves as UMD eventually pulled out another score to hold a 2-0 lead heading into the 1st intermission.

 

The second period contained another even battle, with the Cardinals earning 3 powerplays against the Wolverines 2. In the 20 minutes of play, UM-Dearborn outshot CUAA 13-9, but neither side could convert as the score remained 2-0 through two periods of play.

 

The Wolverines started the third similarly to how they started the opening frame, scoring just 39 seconds into the period. UMD controlled the pace of play in the period, outshooting the Cards 16-3 and tacking on another goal with just over 5 minutes remaining to bring home a 4-0 victory. 

 

Molly Burks made the start in net, making 39 saves on 43 shots against in an impressive effort. Grace Dodgson led the team with 11 shots on goal out of the team's 26 total shots on target. Aaliyah James led the effort from the faceoff circle, winning 16 of her 29 draws. 

 

The Cardinals will hit the host their last series of the season when they face off against Miami for two home games on February 18th and 19th. The Friday, February 18th puck drop is set for 8:30pm at the Arctic Coliseum.
