Emke Named WHAC Offensive Player of the Week

(Ann Arbor, MI) On Monday, the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference announced the weekly honors and Concordia's Heather Emke (SO/Novi, MI), was named Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Emke played a crucial role in the Cardinals two wins last week to help the team remain undefeated in conference play (4-0). In the road win over Marygrove, Emke netted 3 goals and then scored the game winner in double overtime (1-0) at Aquinas. Emke's impressive sophomore campaign has put her among the conference leaders in total points with 17 and 8 total goals. The Cardinals attacking style of play has the team atop every statistical category in the conference.

Coach Steve Shelton has the team off to the best start in school history with an overall record of 8-3-1 considering one of the toughest schedules to date as well. The Cardinals have continued to earn respect on the national level as well by receiving votes in the most recent NAIA top 25 poll. Siena Heights will visit newly constructed Cardinal Stadium on Wednesday, October 7th at 4pm where the Cardinals are currently protecting an 11-0-1 record dating back to last year on the new pro-turf.

Siena Heights comes into the game ranked 15th nationally with an overall record of 9-2. The Saints' just had a 9 game win streak broken up by WHAC conference foe, Northwestern Ohio, 2-1. The Saints average 3 goals a game and lead the league with 35 total goals which is two more than CUAA. Defensively, the Saints are tied with the Cardinals in shutouts (7) and have only allowed 8 goals all year. The Saints are led by local Saline High School product, Taylor Mulder (Fr/F). Mulder has 26 points on the season and 11 goals which is second in both categories to CUAA's, Julia Palushaj (SO/Northville, MI).
