WHAC Releases Conference Honors

The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference announced the women's soccer conference honors for the 2015 season on Tuesday and the Cardinals saw 9 team members honored. Throughout the season, three players were recognized for their weekly performances by the conference when Heather Emke (SO/Novi, MI) and Julia Palushaj (SO/Northville, MI) received the Offensive Player of the Week award. Additionally, Maria Lulgjuraj (FR/West Bloomfield, MI) received Defensive Player of the Week as a goalkeeper.

Julia Palushaj's impressive statistical season was once again recognized by the coaches in the WHAC as she repeated as a member of the First Team All-Conference. Palushaj has been a leader among the best players in the WHAC by remaining atop every offensive statistical category. Her 17 goals on the season breaks her own school record she set last year with 14.

Another repeat member from last year's All-Conference Honorable Mention honors was Midfielder, Lora Palushaj (JR/South Lyon, MI). Coach Steve Shelton has relied on her ball control and precise passing to lead the team's attacking style of play. Lora is 4th overall in the conference with 8 assists which also breaks her own previous school record of 7. Several well placed balls by Palushaj especially on corner kicks have found the back of the net. The Cardinals are tied at 2nd in the conference for total corners with 92.

New to the All-Conference Honorable Mention team this year was Heather Emke. This honor is well deserved as the midfielder has been a consistent offensive presence for Coach Shelton and the team this year. Emke scored a season high 3 goals versus Marygrove on September 30th and is second on the team in total goals (9) and points (19).

The WHAC annually recognizes student-athletes that are of Junior status and have a 3.5 cumulative GPA. The representatives for Concordia's women's soccer team this year are Savannah Diroff (SR/Monroe, MI), Rachel Hay (JR/South Lyon, MI), Rachel Johnston (SR/Ann Arbor, MI), Alyssa Moulds (JR/Northville, MI), Claire Reno (SR/Farmington Hills, MI). As a member of the NAIA, the WHAC enforces the true spirit of competition through the Champions of Character Program. The WHAC has a Champions of Character team for every sport at the end of the season. This year's representative from the CUAA women's soccer team is Alyssa Moulds.
